If you want a really good, older (published in the 50s by a black author) book, you could try Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin, though the end is sad. But I'm a Cheerleader is a great queer film. ![]() TV shows - Queer as Folk (the original UK version, obvs). One of my fave books is Glitterland by Alexis Hall but some people find the love interest annoying (I'm all about the annoying characters, myself). ![]() Very queer, very heartwarming, lovely little film - not trans, though the three main characters are drag and stay in drag throughout. Struggling to recommend anything because there's so much and it really depends what you want! I loved their story so much so, that I knew this was going to be a must listen when it came out. ![]() ![]() Even a week later after reading their story, I still had Ryan and Jameson rattling around in my head. Gah! I absolutely love books where the characters stick with you long after the last page. Wicked Heat is book one of two in Ryan Carrigan and Jameson Clarke's story. Especially when he looks like someone who just stepped off the cover of GQ.įate seems to have other ideas, though, and every time I turn around, he’s there.Ī wicked heat simmers between us, threatening to ignite, and though I’ve been trained to put out the flames, I can’t help but think: What’s the worst that could happen if I let this desire burn out of control? So saving some rich guy from losing his wallet is the last thing I want to do on a Friday night. The very last thing I’m looking for in life is to fall in love and live happily ever after. He’s grumpy, rude, and honestly, not that likeable at all. I also liked reading a tale set in contemporary Scotland which isn't a crime story. The writing style is pleasant and descriptive, and I enjoyed the read. Now the scene and characters are established a series follows. The only criticism I have is that the end comes just as we are really getting started, so don't expect too much of romance, suspense or action from this novella. Most of the sport occurs on a plastic slope, enough that non-skiers can learn, but the tale ends with the first snowfall of winter. Creditably our heroine Jude, a graphic artist, decides to take on the work of running the ski school, although she isn't very confident nor used to business decisions.Ī Kiwi arrives in town in time to apply for an instructor's job while we also meet a local or two and a lively bunch of potential ski and snowboard instructors. ![]() We also see a winter of the heart, as her husband is away working in New Zealand, unaccountably failing to pay into the bank account and seldom in touch with his wife and young teen daughter. Winter has a double meaning the winter season arrives for a woman whose family runs a ski school in Scotland, and she needs to get organised. ![]() ![]() He has spent years curating the various items, including a vast collection of taxidermy, and tends to it all with care and dedication.Ĭarrot’s favorite piece is an elk head, known as Prince, which her Uncle has now placed in her room above the bed to make her comfortable. The museum, think smaller version of Ripley’s Believe It or Not, is her Uncle’s pride and joy. Recently divorced, Kara, known as Carrot by her family and friends, returns to her beloved Uncle Earl’s Museum of Wonders to live, lick her wounds and help him out. ![]() ![]() Okay, with the low-key fangirling out of the way, let’s get into the story, shall we? If you haven’t read anything by Kingfisher yet, this is a great place to start. The humor and heart she is able to bring to her stories is absolutely top notch. I think it’s really hard to nail weird, yet she does it. This also provides a new way for children to express themselves, or for you to relate to them, as you can begin referring to yellow days or blue days. As your child grows, they can begin to name the colors when you point to them. Your little one may want to hold the book, turn the pages, and do the pointing while you name the object or color. You can begin teaching colors and animals by pointing to and naming them on each page while you read. Your child can grow and learn with this book, as it will take on more meaning to them over time. ![]() Children will begin associating colors with feelings ranging from brown days when they feel "slow, and low low down" to bright pink days where "it's great to jump and just not think." The board pages are filled to the edge with vibrantly colored paintings of animals your child will recognize, like a horse, owl, bear, and fish. ![]() Each of the primary colors is paired with an imaginative representation of moods.
